List your favourite bands here and why you feel they are/were important to the BlackMetal scene. I've got way too many bands but Windir right at the moment. Maybe Old Man's Child

I think Mayhem obviously deserves a lot of credit for what they did. As far as putting black metal on the map. Too bad euronmous had to blow his brains out. Right now though I think the band Immortal is most definately the best band in the scene. They are really sticking to their guns and staying true to how the scene started out.

Excellent choice, do you like the new black metal that has started using more melodic vocals? and to the "extol" guy...-Get a life all of those bands you mentioned are lame christian bands and they aren't even black metal. YOU ARE NOT WELCOME HERE

WRONG, there are good black metal christian bands too. Like Extol, or HORDE, or even P.O.D. Here is an excellent site that shows you teh history of good christian metal www.metalforjesus.org/history.htm

I wholeheartedly agree with everyone except that lame Extol fan. Mayhem rocks big time. I have to correct you, though, AGHOSTLYDAGGERSHEDDINGTEARS. You are wrong about Eronymous. He was murdered by Count Grishnackh from the band Burzum. It was actually Dead, the lead singer, who killed himself. He left a note that said "Excuse all the blood." Eronymous actually took pictures of him when he found his body and they ended up on the cover of the now-infamous bootleg "Dawn of the Black hearts." (see below). I also have to mention a couple bands that you're forgetting. Of course, there's my all-time favorites, Hellhammer, and Denmark's legendary black metal band, Merciful Fate. And let's not forget Rotting Christ. "Dawn of the Black Hearts"
