So, as future president of the Regal Social Club Book Club, here's some ideas I have about it.
- I think we should do a book a month. Maybe meet twice a month, like discuss the first half of the book and then all of it once we're done. Or maybe we don't meet at all, just have Kleech start a new section of the forum specifically for book club discussion.
- A different member should pick the book for each month. I will decide the order, since I'm the fucking president. There should be some rules, though, about what's an acceptable choice. Such as:
- No funny/ironic choices. It should be something you genuinely think everybody should read, or something you've wanted to read but haven't gotten around to. For example, "Cash" by Johnny Cash is acceptable, "Star" by Pamela Anderson is not.
- By "no funny/ironic choices" I do not mean the book can't be actually funny. Something like "Real Ultimate Power: The Official Ninja Handbook" is, in my estimation, totally valid. I just mean you can't pick something like a D & D book or a romance novel. Only something you think is genuinely worthwhile.
- Some books could be considered "worthwhile," but still unacceptable "ironic" choices. Example: "Beloved," while occasionally genuinely enjoyable, is not a good choice. Even though Toni Morrison is well extremely respected and won a Nobel Prize, I would still only pick this book as a joke because it's prolly the most frustrating thing I've ever read. Or something like "Tess of the Durbervilles." It's respected, but I would only pick it because I know it would bore the piss out of everyone.
- There should be some sort of vote among members if there is a particularly unpopular choice.
- Nothing over, say, 300 pages, give or take a few. This could be pretty flexible, though.
- I'm taking this way too seriously.
That is all.
