I would like to get back to talking about the great mankato war, does anyone feel that it was a necessary evil? Yes, I think it was. The North Mankatoans needed to be put in their place. Thank God the great General Mankato was around to do it, or we'd all me speaking North Mankatoese right now.

I'm not familiar with the motivations of the water-obsessed North Mankato savages in the 1700s. Can you refresh my memory of the history of our great microtropolis, mavcop?

I'll bet we could make a pretty amazing documentary about the Great Mankato War.

The war took place in 1867, one year before our beloved MSU opened. during the building of the lower campus, constructions workers became tired, and thirsty. Keep in mind that the constructions workers had to bring their own water bottled up for the day before because Mankato could only have water Tue, Thurs, and Saturday. North Mankato had it on the other days and together they would share on Sunday. North Mankato has always tried to keep the water for themsleves. It was there idea to bottle it and sell is at plays and festivals at outlandish prices.
On July 19th 1867, a Sunday usaly the day when things like this would happen, a shouting match broke out between Mankato and North mankato. The construction workers went down to the river for a drink, and met some boisterous North Mankatoians. They scoffed at the blue collar attitudes of Mankatonites. This En ranged the construction foreman for the site, as he begun to splash water on the north's Sundays best. escalating matters further some one threw a rock. (Even to this day and proper forensic investigations, it is impossible to know who threw the first rock. but we do know it wasn't the last thrown. )
Many battles broke out after this mostly vandalism, and a few beatings, surprisingly this war had only 16 causalities, my ancestor Otis James Mavcop was the last, a dear friend of the great general Mankato who had successfully fought off, the British, French, Germans, Chinese, Indians, Romans, Egyptians, Turks, Buffalo and African Americans, to name a few. the general said "For who has brought this great tragedy upon this great river city? I am a man who has seen many battles but a guarantee this will be my finest work." On August 12th 1867 from there he hopped on the only buffalo in river city mankato, and rode to the North mankato, Mankato bridge. and claimed this message "If we do not end this now, we will not have a river city to love, and I will not have a city to protect, if this comes true, I will make sure I have no one to protect as well."
Both towns gripped in fear felt this warning was good enough to end the war, a treaty has never been signed almost 140 years after the violence had stopped. The stoppage of the war brought both cities closer together, although some hostility still exist. Most do fear that the great general Mankato may ride again, if he does, may Bolo save us all.

I feel that North Mankato, but a smoking ban on Mankato to try and hash up some bad feeligns on the war would anyone agree? I would if I could understand that sentence. Thanks for the history lesson, that was very enlightening. I never knew General Mankato fought off the buffalo and the African Americans.
